Gelato Village was founded in 2014 by Antonio De Vecchi and Daniele Taverna. Originally from Turin, Antonio and Daniele are passionate about bringing real Italian gelato to Leicester.
Antonio was trained at the prestigious Carpigiani Gelato University in Italy. He uses the traditional ‘Mantecazione’ method to create exquisite Gelato at the in-store laboratory. He develops every recipe himself and loves to experiment with new flavours and combinations.
Antonio and Daniele insist on using the highest quality ingredients to create authentic Gelato. They never use artificial preservatives, flavourings or emulsifiers. This means the Gelato is natural and lower in fat than ice cream, with an average of only 170 calories per 100g of Gelato and 110 in Sorbetto.
At Gelato VIllage, we take time to source the perfect ingredients, whether they are local or global. All of our milk and cream comes from rare breed Red Poll cows at the Belvoir Ridge Creamery near Melton Mowbray. We believe that this is the secret ingredient that adds incredible flavour to our Gelato. We also source beautiful pistachios from Bronte, Sicily, which have certified ‘PDO’ (Protected Designation of Origin) status. They are considered some of the finest in the world.
You will also find a rainbow of other ingredients and flavours in our gelateria. Throughout the year we observe seasonality and local availability to make sure that every cone of Gelato we sell tastes as good as it possibly can. All of our products are fresh too, we never sell anything that is over 72 hours old, although it is rare for a pan to last that long!
